Care & Styling

Treated well, your Ayira unit stays soft, full and beautiful for a long time. A few simple habits keep it looking fresh wear after wear.

Washing

Wash every week or two, or whenever there's product buildup. Use cool to lukewarm water and a sulfate-free shampoo, smoothing it downward through the hair rather than scrubbing or piling it on top of itself, which causes tangling. Rinse until the water runs clear.

Moisture and Conditioning

Follow each wash with a hydrating conditioner from mid-length to ends, keeping it off the lace and knots. Leave it a couple of minutes, then rinse. Once a month, deep condition to bring back softness and shine, and a lightweight leave-in keeps raw hair happy between washes. A little goes a long way.

Detangling

Always work gently with a wide-tooth comb or your fingers, starting at the ends and moving up toward the roots, never the other way around. Detangle when the hair is damp with a little water or leave-in for slip. Patience here is what keeps your unit full.

Reviving Curls and Waves

For body wave, deep wave and burmese curly units, refresh the pattern by misting with water, or a water and leave-in mix, and scrunching upward with your hands. Air dry or diffuse, and avoid brushing textured hair while it's dry, which loosens the curl and creates frizz.

Heat Styling

Our raw hair takes heat beautifully, but always protect it. Use a heat protectant first, keep your tools at a low to medium setting, and give the hair breaks from direct heat to preserve its natural shine and lifespan.

Caring for the Lace and Hairline

Your unit arrives pre-plucked with a natural hairline, so go easy on plucking to avoid thinning the lace. When you take it off, dissolve any adhesive with a gentle remover instead of pulling, and treat the baby hairs and the perimeter softly.

Coloring

Because it's raw hair, your unit can be colored, though we always recommend a professional stylist for dyeing or bleaching to protect the integrity of the hair. If you'd rather skip the risk, our Color Series and Soft Luxe Edit units come ready in their shade.

Storage and Daily Care

When you're not wearing it, keep your unit on a wig stand to hold its shape, or braid it loosely and store it in a satin or silk bag. Wrap curly textures to protect the pattern. Cared for this way, with regular washing and gentle handling, your Ayira unit stays luxurious for a year or more.
